The negative impacts of sitting for hours at a time are well documented, but for many of us it’s a daily occurrence thanks to typical office jobs. However, the emergence of standing desks and flexible work arrangements has cut down on the amount of time you need to spend seated daily.

While I’ve been working from home for the past four years, I’ve generally been slow to adopt the home office gear that can help improve my comfort and ergonomics at home. However, I finally made the decision to switch to a standing desk recently and haven’t looked back.

I’ve been testing the Flexispot E7 Pro Standing Desk for a few weeks now, so read on for my thoughts and full review.

What: Flexispot E7 Pro Standing Desk Cost: Starting at $620 (currently on sale from $850) Where to buy: Flexispot

Overview: The Flexispot E7 Pro Standing Desk is one of several models that the brand offers. It’s available in a range of sizes and finishes, but I opted for the 55″ x 28″ bamboo desktop with a white frame. The desk has a sturdy steel frame that holds up to 440 pounds and adjusts from 25″ to 50.6″ in height.

Delivery: The desk arrived in two boxes, with the frame in one and the desktop in the other. Since the boxes are quite large and heavy, I’d recommend having two people on hand to carry them into your home. Shipping is free in Canada via Fedex and can take anywhere from one to 10 business days depending on where you’re located; I’m in Toronto, and received my desk within three business days.

Assembly: Assembly was pretty straightforward thanks to the help of the handy video tutorial. My husband and I were able to build the desk in about an hour, mainly because we took our time bringing all of the pieces one by one into our office downstairs. This method may take a little longer, but I’d definitely recommend it over attempting to move a fully-built, 60-plus pound desk.

The instructions say that you can build the desk using the included Allen/hex key and a screwdriver or drill. I went with a drill and would recommend this method for an easier build – especially when it comes time to attach the base to the wooden desktop.

Favourite features: My favourite feature of this adjustable desk is the LED keypad that controls the desk’s height. While there’s an up and a down button to raise and lower the desktop, there are also memory settings to remember your preferred sitting and standing heights. Once saved, it’s easy to go between the two with just the touch of a button.

Least favourite features: The biggest drawback to this desk is its weight. If you live alone, you’ll likely need to call in some reinforcements to put it together and move it into place.

Dimensions: 55″ x 28″ desktop, though other sizes are available Material: Bamboo desktop + solid carbon steel base structure Weight capacity: 440 lbs Weight: frame – 69 lbs; 55″ x 28″ bamboo desktop – 33 lbs Assembly required: Yes Product warranty: frame – 15 years; desktop – five years Returns: 30 days

Recommendation: I would recommend a standing desk to anyone who wants to add some flexibility to their workstation, since being able to go from sitting to standing without much effort has encouraged me to be more mindful about being more active throughout my workday. My Apple Watch already gives me a reminder every hour if I haven’t stood, and I now use that notification as a reminder to shift my desk into standing mode.

I started by spending five minutes standing every hour, and have worked my way up to 20 minutes at a time. It’s nice to be able to alternate between sitting and standing, and I’m even considering investing in a walking pad to add even more movement into my day.

Once you get past the delivery and assembly phase, it’s smooth sailing with the Flexispot E7 Pro desk.
